Aiden Yielding (14) was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) in April of 2020. We opted for treatment at Cook Children's in Fort Worth through a clinical trial, a treatment program called the Total 17 Protocol through St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Aiden is currently in the maintenance phase which requires weekly visits to Cook Children's for checkups and treatments every Tuesday for the next two-and-a-half years. We understand this will be a marathon, not a sprint.
Aiden is currently taking this diagnosis in stride, participating in virtual school and he has recently taken up competitive fishing since contact sports aren't possible while he is undergoing treatment.
With the pandemic related precautions currently in place, only one parent is allowed to be with Aiden during his weekly treatments. You may have seen a video or two of "Dancing Dad" Chuck in the hospital parking lot breaking out his best moves in an effort to cheer up our boy! It's been fun to bring a smile to so many through the sharing of our story. Our family is focused on Aiden's fight, but we look forward to his healthy future and plan to find ways to support other families going through this.
